The Danish game developer Ghost Ship Games and the Swedish game publisher Coffee Stain have won two prizes for the game Deep Rock Galactic at the SXSW award ceremony which was held on 20 March. The game won in the category “Excellence in Multiplayer” where big games like Valorant and Star Wars: Squadrons were also nominated, and also in the category “Indie Game of the Year”
Deep Rock Galactic have had increasing success since its full launch in the spring of 2020 after the game was 2 years in continuous development (Early Access/Game Preview). Today, the game has rounded more than 2 million players since the beginning and has a very active player environment that still affects the game’s further development. Players’ great enthusiasm for Deep Rock Galactic is reflected in the fact that 97% of all reviews on the Steam PC platform are positive, making it one of the best reviewed multiplayer games ever. The game has also been nominated by the website gamesindustry.biz in the category “Community Management of 2020” for The Indie Publishing Awards, part of GI Live: Online.
“We are deeply honored that Deep Rock Galactic has won both awards. “Indie Game of the Year” is probably the bigger of the two awards and a big surprise. And Ghost Ships’ mission has always been to focus on co-op, so that winning in the “Excellence in Multiplayer” category is just the best recognition that we have managed to create a fun and original collaborative game!“, says Mikkel Martin Pedersen, game director and founder of Ghost Ship Games
Ghost Ship Games was founded in the spring of 2016 by a group of veterans from the Danish gaming industry. Deep Rock Galactic is the company’s first game to be released together with the Swedish company Coffee Stain. Ghost Ship Games has grown to 25 employees and is now another Danish gaming company that has received international recognition.
“It feels good to be able to represent the Danish gaming industry at such a large international event as SXSW and then even win two awards. It really says something about the potential that the Danish gaming industry has.”, says Søren Lundgaard, director and founder of Ghost Ship Games.
Deep Rock Galactic is an online shooting game where up to four players work together as a team of space dwarves digging for valuable minerals on a deadly planet far into space. The game is sold as a so-called Premium game, which means that users buy the game once and then get all further developed content for free.
The game is one of the best reviewed multiplayer games ever on Steam and has over 100,000 players daily and has been translated into 20 different languages.
